Alice Holt Forest, Gruffalo Sculptures

On Sunday 6th January 2019 we had a family trip to Alice Holt Forest in Farnham, Surrey. The Forest is approx 23 miles from Bracknell, 28 miles from Reading and 29 miles from Windsor. We had never been to Alice Holt Forest but I knew there were Gruffalo sculptures there and I was keen for my little one to see them as we all enjoy reading The Gruffalo and the other children's books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The Forest which is Forestry Commission run is vast, spanning 850 hectares. Once parked we headed to the information desk to find out which trail The Gruffalo sculptures were on. The information desk staff were very friendly and helpful. After a toilet stop we then headed to the Easy Access Trail (following the pink signs and arrows) which was a 1 1/2 mile walk and suitable for pushchair and wheelchair users.

Early on we came across the first sculpture, The Squirrel. Finding a sculpture early on in the walk certainly inspired our child to want to find the next sculpture. It was great having sculptures to find on the walk as it gave my little one an incentive to keep walking the whole trail. During our walk we found, The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Snake, Owl, Fox and Mouse. We also found The Stickman much to the delight of our little one.

After our walk around the Easy Access Trail we headed to the cafe for lunch. There was a great selection of food and I thought it was reasonably priced. We stayed at Alice Holt Forest for 2 hours and paid £5 for parking. We will definitely return to the Forest as there are plenty more trails to follow and play areas to discover.

*I was not asked or paid to write this blog post. We just had a lovely few hours at the woodland, searching for The Gruffalo. Here is the Berkshire Mummies disclaimer.*
