All Aboard at Pinewood (Wokingham) Miniature Railway

Updated: Mar 17, 2019

We visited the Pinewood Miniature Railway situated between Wokingham and Crowthorne on 15th April 2018. It’s certainly popular and we queued for about 15 minutes for a ride on one of the miniature trains. There were about 4 trains in operation so the queue kept moving all the time. Whilst waiting it was great fun just watching the trains (a mixture of electric and steam) leaving and returning to the station and it meant that my little one didn’t get bored as there was plenty to see and talk about.

Tickets for the train ride were £1 per person with under 3s going free or you could buy 5 tickets and get the 6th ride free. I thought the train journey was a good length and good value for money. The train took you through a woodland and there were magical fairy doors of different colours on the trees and gnomes within the woodland. The miniature railway has a ticket office, station master and you can see the train sheds as well as a turntable. The volunteers were very helpful and obviously enjoy running the railway and helped to bring the station to life with their authentic train driver hats! The Pinewood Miniature Railway Society was formed over 25 years ago and is a not-for-profit voluntary organisation.

The trains run on the third Sunday of the month between March to October. There is free car parking, we had to drive round the car park once before we found a space as it was busy but there were people coming and going all the time.

Whilst we were there the Bracknell Railway Society were holding a free open day so we had the chance to see their model railways with plenty of model trains making their way round the tracks.

There are also two parks and a cafe at Pinewood where the Miniature Railway is situated. The parks were popular so we did not stay and play but we will return as they looked good fun.

It’s always great to find something in Berkshire that we have not tried before. We had a lovely family afternoon at the railway and look forward to returning later on in the season.
